After three weeks of 16-hour days spent organizing travel arrangements for a constantly shuffling roster of NHL players and working out the finest details with northern officials on the novel idea of a three-game charity tour to Yellowknife, Inuvik and Whitehorse, Chabot could rest easy.

His dream of bringing the NHL to the northernmost reaches of Canada was going to happen, raising funds for charities in the process. Chabot is passionate about his support for First Assist, an organization which allows First Nations youth to experience a taste of life in larger cities to the south, opening up their eyes to a bigger world and giving them respite from a sometimes dark world that often includes far too much drug and alcohol abuse.

The end result might not have been quite as grand as he first envisioned — 10 NHL players ultimately made the trek, including Ottawa Senators Craig Anderson, Chris Phillips, Chris Neil, Zack Smith, Marc Methot, Guillaume Latendresse and Peter Regin — but the group was expected to hit the ice in front of a standing-room-only crowd of more than 2,000 at the Multiplex Complex Sunday night, making it the biggest hockey event to ever hit the city. During the intermissions, the NHLers planned to mingle on the ice with players from Yellowknife minor hockey associations.
