As most of you probably know by now, Craig Anderson cut himself with a knife and Robin Lehner has been recalled from Binghamton.
Here’s Garrioch’s summary of what happened:
While the prognosis for his return was not good after the Senators goalie severed a tendon in his small finger Wednesday and had surgery Thursday, GM Bryan Murray told reporters Friday his injury may not be long-term.
“We were told (Thursday) it was going to be some period of time. (Friday) we got a little better news. As soon as he feels comfortably he can handle a stick, he’ll be back on the ice, probably as early as next week,” said Murray.
“When he can handle a stick, he can probably get ready to play. There’s no time frame. We’re optimistic that it won’t be a long, long time.”
Sources told the Sun the Senators were originally told under a worst-case scenario, Anderson could be out 6-to-8 weeks.
The news broke last night on “The Twitter” and attention immediately turned to whether Lehner would be recalled from Binghamton. Lehner ended the debate with the following Tweet:
And a mere 16 hours later the Senators made it official:
Lehner was in fact in town in time for Friday morning’s practice session. With the Sens next game not until tomorrow night at home against the Bruins many were hoping Lehner would get thrust into action. Some (read: me) would suggest it was destiny.
But not so fast! The Twitter-verse came bearing bad news for Lehner and fans hoping to see the future now:
So the ball is in the bald man’s court now. If the Sens win and Auld is not awful you have to think they’ll stick with him because it’s not as though the Sens are so comfotable that they can mess with winning streaks for fun.
Destiny is on hold… for now.
Lehner is 8-16-1 in Bingo this year with a GAA of 3.38 and SV% of .905.
