MacLean has Mo-mentum for Sens coaching job

With reports that Calder Cup winning coach Kurt Kleinendorst will be in town to interview for the vacant Ottawa head coaching job today, the Sens bench boss bingo card appears to be filling up quickly.

Whether it’s just a courtesy to Kleinendorst for his great work with Bingo or a legitimate opportunity remains to be seen. However the house money seems to be on Red Wings assistant coach Paul MacLean as the Sens next head coach.

Although some have questioned why the Wings would let him go, it is a time-honoured tradition in the coaching ranks to allow your organizational staff to pursue opportunities to further their careers, otherwise Kirk Muller would never be allowed out of Montreal.

Many teams have tried to import the Detroit Red Wings pixie dust with varying levels of success. If that is Murray’s primary motivation then we may be on coach #5 in short order. However, at the very least MacLean represents two things that have been lacking in recent Sens coaches — recent NHL coaching experience and a former player.

One thing is clear, that moustache is awesome and cannot continue to be overshadowed by Mike Babcock’s Dove-endorsed locks. Kaspars Daugavins may have some competition.
