Sens acquire Nikita Filatov for 3rd round pick

In round 2 of the NHL draft the Sens traded their third-round pick, 66th overall, to Columbus in exchange for the Russian forward Nikita Filatov who was the 6th overall pick in the 2008 NHL draft.

Filatov is 21 and has struggled to find his way in Columbus and last year only got nine goals and 11 assists in 36 games with Springfield, Columbus’ AHL team.

More the trade HERE and HERE.

One interesting note was that after the trade current Blue Jacket, RJ Umberger (@Umby18), took to Twitter and posted this gem; “Great work by Scott Howson to get a third-round pick for Filatov. #teamsgettingbetter.”

Also, in 2009 Filatov was named the Russian World Jr. team’s captain only to be stripped of same before the team’s final game because he had criticized the team’s coaches to the media.

Needless to say, the Sens have taken a gamble on Niki … but it’s a good time for the franchise to be taking such gambles because there’s not much to lose.  If he continues to act like a douche and corrupt the other youth the Sens can send him to Bingo as he’s on a two way deal.
